About Koru Dance

I
have always danced merrily for my own enjoyment and creative
expression, spending many years twirling fire and revelling
in the healthful, elemantal nature of such dance. I am very
inspired by the healing nature of open hearted, expressive dance
and have discovered through my journey into the African styles
that certainly this form of dance offers that opportunity. |
| The
movement is more about the stories and feelings involved than
the technical aspects, although in saying that, the physical
and rythmic challenges presented are a source of great fun
and satisfaction as well, and the creative energy exchange
between the dancers and drummers can be thrilling!
Performance is also a key aspect of this dance, sharing the
joy with the wider community. |
| My
African dance training thus far has been centred in Perth
WA, primarily with 4 different teachers. Kathy McPherson was
my first teacher and I am grateful to her for mentoring me
in an organic and intensive teacher training journey. I have
also participated in numerous drum and dance workshops with
a variety of visiting teachers and groups.
I am looking forward to a lifelong journey as a student
of tribal drumming and dance, and the more I embody it, the
more my passion grows. |
| I also greatly enjoy sharing my passion with any and all
willing spirits, and being part of that delicious group energy
that is so safe and encouraging for individuals, and so bonding
as we work together on fun and exiciting projects. See you
there! Ra. |
